Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

Do you have the Remanufactured/Used Engine in stock that I need?
More than likely we do, but please use our Free Quote Form to make sure. If not, we can most likely get it!
How do I place in order?
First, make sure you get a Free Quote. The Free Quote you receive via email or online will have a link to be able to checkout and purcahse your Engine. Alternatively, you can call one of our Engine Specialist at (833) 284-7616.
What do I do after I place an order?
Once the order has been placed, our team will make sure you get your engine ASAP. However, you will need to login and register in our Customer Portal. The Customert Portal will allow you to do a lot of cool stuff like checking Order Status, Core Returns, Invoice Signing, Submit a Support Ticket, Warranty Claims, etc.
When will I receive my engine?
Usually within 5 to 7 BUSINESS Days for Remanufactured Engines and 7-10 BUSINESS Days for Used Engines and at times we get them there a bit faster. However, we will need a day or so to process the order so please remember to tally this on as well.
You say the Shipping is Free, is that true?
You betcha it is! However, it has to be a commercial address like an Auto Shop. However, if you are having the engine delivered to your House or an address not considered commerical by the carriers, you will need to add $125 for Remanufactured and $75 for Used. If you are shipping to somewhere such as HI or AK, it will be $400 instead.
How long have you been in business?
While the site is new, we have been in the Automtive parts business for at least 35 years. Rest assured you will be speaking with seasoned professionals when you are dealing with us!
What is the difference between a Remanufactured Engine and a Used Engine?
A Remanufactured Engine has been completely rebuilt in a factory using the latest in Remanufactured Engine Technology! They have to meet strict standards which make them pratically new and void of all known manufaturer defects. They are not rebuilt, reconditioned or the like and have a whole different standard. Our Used Engines are used parts which come from all kinds of vehicles including salvage vehicles. While all of our Used Engines have been steam cleaned and compression tested, they are not exactly drop-in engines and require a bit more preparation and attention before installing.
How can I pay?
We take MasterCard, Visa, and Discover card through our website and over the phone. Wire Transfers may also be made available

Remanufactured Engines

Is the 7 Year No Fault Unlimited Miles Warranty real?
Yes, it is! As long as you get the install done by a real licensed Auto Shop and you do not try to put it in yourself. If you do do a "DIY" install, you will still get a great warranty, but it will not be No Fault. You can check out all of the details here: Warranty Details.
Do your engines really match or surpass OEM Specs as we say it does?
Yes! All of our Remanufactured Engines is built to make sure all known manufacturer defects are gone. So virtually our engines can be "better" then the original which was in the vehicle. All Remanufactured Engines are are made under SO 9001:2000 standards and are Gold Seal certified.
What exactly do you do in the Remanufacturing process?
Wow, this is a big question and very detailed. Please check out this page to see more details: Remanufactured Engine Process.
What do I need to do to make sure my Remanufactured Engine remains running properly after the install?
First, use some good oil and do not use Synthetic for at least 3,000 miles. You will also need to check oil level often as the engine will use 1-2 quarts during the "break-in" time. Also, make sure to change the oil after 500 miles of driving and then the standard oil change at 3,000 miles as well. Also, it is a good idea to take it easy and not rev your RPMs to high for too long. Your Mechanic should have some helpful advice as well. If you are not using a Mechanic and doing a DIY, just be cool on your car for a bit and make sure to change that oil!
What does Core even mean?
Good Question and one we hear often. The core is basically your old engine in most scenarios. The whole Remanufactured Parts industry works off of this principle of returning cores and making them like new again.
What do you mean by "Core Charge"?
Simple! A Core Charge is like a deposit until we get your old engine back. If you cannot provide a core, you will be charged this fee in addtion to the price of the engine itself. With most Remanufactured Engine sellers, you have to pay this upfront which is additional monies out of your pocket for 30 days or more in most cases. With Uneedengines.com we offer a Core Charge Waiver Policy which you can read about in more detail below.
Tell me about this awesome Core Charge Waiver Policy I just heard about?
We give you the option to Waive the Core Charge for 30 days! But, if you do not schedule a Core Return within the 30-day time frame, you will be charged for the Core Charge in full. Once the Core has been returned within a Maximum of 45 days, you will receive the Core Charge amount back minus a $50.00 Processing and Handling Fee if the 30-day time frame has been exceeded. Furthermore, the warranty will be voided if not returned within the 30-day waiver period.
Do you take Cores back in any condtion?
Nope. The Core you return must be free of any holes, cracks or if has been welded, we are not having that! We call this the "duh factor" and any attempts will result in you losing the Core Charge. This aplies on the Core Charge Waiver Policy as well.
Are your Remanufactured Engines complete?
Well, we sell what is commonly referred to as Long Blocks. We will just give you the industry standard answer below. It is a bit long so make sure and pay attention!A long block includes the block casting with all the required machining, crankshaft, connecting rods, all new rod bearings, main bearings, pistons, rings, soft plugs, camshaft and timing. The cylinder heads which includes head casting with all the required machining, new valves, keepers, springs and seals, all new rocker arms push rods and lifters complete the assembly. The long block also includes a full set of gaskets and a new oil pump. The non-wearing parts of an engine such as the oil pan, valve covers, timing covers, and intake manifold are removed in most cases. Power steering pump, alternator, starter, and AC compressor are not included. Any non-wearing components are left on for convenience purposes only.

With our remanufactured engines, the following components are NEW: NEW Pistons, NEW Piston Pins, NEW Oil Pump or Kit, NEW Valves*, NEW Bushings*, NEW Valve Guides, NEW Cam Bearings, NEW Lifters*, NEW Piston Rings, NEW Valve Seals, NEW High?Quality Gasket Sets, NEW Fel?Pro Teflon Rear Main Seals*, NEW Rod Bearings, NEW Main Bearings, NEW Timing Gears, NEW Timing Chains, NEW Timing Belt (where applicable, not all engines), NEW Push Rods*, NEW Freeze Plugs, NEW Cam Shafts*. * = most engines

When installing an engine, the following items will be helpful to have: filters, various tune up items, distributor caps, rotors, plug wires and spark plugs, belts, radiator hoses, new water pump, new mechanical fuel pump (when applicable), thermostat and radiator cap, etc. etc. The good news is that we have you covered, because our Engine Installation Kits contain everything you need to make your engine install a success, and you can purchase one from us to make sure you are absolutely prepared!

Used Engines

What kind of Warranty do Used Enignes get?
Used Engines have a FREE 3 Year/36K Mile Parts and Labor warranty. This is only for Gas Engines, for Diesel and Truck Engine warranties are for 3 years or 36,000 miles Parts Only.
What do I get with my Used Engine?
You will get a complete engine, minus items like Power Steering Pump, Alternator, Starter, and AC Compressor. Everything else on the engine is there for convience pupposes and we do not guarantee them to work. Best to keep your old stuff if it is still working.
Will it be the exact engine which came out of my car everytime?
Sometimes, but often it can come from a different year, make or model. Car manufacturers interchange these engines with all diferrent makes and models and can use the same engine for many years. Therefore, we have a system which tells us all the crossovers and this means we can find more engines for our customers faster! Cool, huh?
How are Used Engines shipped?
We drain all of the fluids and then warp it up in shrink wrap and strap it down to a pallet. It will arrive to where ever you asked for it to arrive via the major carriers out there.
